Martha Denisse Pierola is a trade and development economist, currently working for the Markets, Competition and Technology Unit of the World Bank. She co-created the World Bank's Exporter Dynamics Database and has published several papers on export growth and development. She has also studied the impact of import competition and migration shocks on labor outcomes and firm-level productivity in Latin America.
Previously, she worked in the Equitable Growth, Finance and Institutions Practice Group where she analyzed growth patterns in middle-income countries and advised on knowledge management issues. Before rejoining the World Bank, she worked for the Inter-American Development Bank. She has a PhD in International Economics from the Graduate Institute of International Studies in Geneva and a Master of International Law and Economics from the World Trade Institute in Bern.
